In India, people always try to become fit. They join the gym or a studio, do morning walk, try yoga at home many more things. All these things’ people do with the 2 basic motives and those are
1. Weight/fat loss
3. Weight/muscle gain.
Weight / Fat loss – lets look at the most common reasons for losing weigh /fat
Weight / Muscle Gain – lets looks at the most common reasons
Most people don’t even exercise as they believe and rely more on following some diet plan for becoming fit (ultimately to lose weight). Unfortunately, most of the diets people follow are not prescribed by a qualified nutritionist and not really are healthy in terms of overall health & comprehensive nourishment as they emphasize more on caloric deficit and have some bad aftereffects like hair loss, getting angry in a situation which usually could be acceptable and many more.
In the name of body recomposition (losing fat & gaining muscle at the same time) people are put to follow strict diet plans which mostly include intermittent fasting, low carbohydrate intakes, high protein and high fat etc. But unfortunately, they are not individualized most of the times and hence can’t be advisable randomly to all. Ironically many professionals have either misunderstood or incompletely understood the concept of body recomposition and they need to study more about it. Also, many of them haven’t even studied the basics of exercise and nutrition physiology either.
Coming back to the goals (gain /loss). Somehow, they manage to achieve these goals and realize, they are still not happy with their so-called fit body. And then they start blaming the exercise program or a diet plan they have followed. None had time to find out what is the actual solution of the problem.
Sometimes, even after achieving the above-mentioned fitness goals people realize that, they can’t catch the bus OR can’t scratch the back if it itches at the center OR they can’t lift their office bags, and many more lifestyle problems. Are they really fit?????
An Awesome explanatory statement example can be “having visible six pack abs and having core strength are two different things.”
Weight / fat loss, weight/ muscle gain is good but is not affordable at the cost of physical & mental health and without improved functionality. (Along with gain or loss, functionality should also be improved).
Weight / muscle gain is good, but not at the cost of your and other health problems
We must understand that just losing or gaining somehow is not going to help with the health and wellness. While eating we should eat to nourish first and then to lose or gain.
We also need to improve functionality while losing weight which will help us in activities of daily living, improve functions of the organs (Lungs, Heart, Kidneys, Liver etc.) prevent diseases and lifestyle disorders, overcome occupational hazards like postural deviations and overuse conditions and most importantly avoid being hypokinetic (diminished movements than it should be) in lifestyle.
Rate yourself on the scale of 5 for the below mentioned parameters of physical fitness.
1. Cardiorespiratory endurance (Stamina)-
2. Flexibility-
3. Muscular strength-
4. Muscular endurance (stamina to prolong muscular activity)
